The switchgear maybe used for prime power, standby power or emergency power applications.
The switchgear can scale from single cabinet to multi-section line-up. The gear may also include auxillary local generator control panels and circuit breaker junction boxes.
Switchgear structures maybe from Eaton, ABB or Schneider.
Switchgear is built to UL standards and depending on order specifications, SAI can list under UL 1558.
HMI Development
Depending on equipment selected, HMI development can range from manipulation of vendors software to use predefined controls or the creation of custom software.
SAI are familiar in developing panels using Rockwell Automation Panelview Plus with RSView ME development suite or Schneider’s Magelis family with the Vijeo Designer.
HMI displays vary in size from 5” to 18” and may include touch-support.

PLC Programming
As part of the custom switchgear or control panel assembly, SAI will design, develop, and function test the PLC (programmable logic control) to supplied requirements and specifications. We specialize in the Allen-Bradley families of PLCs (ControlLogix, CompactLogix, MicroLogix, SLC, & PLC5), however other manufacturers’ controllers, such as GE, Siemens, Schneider, Comap, Woodward, and Basler can be provided.
PLC Development
- Creating the ladder logic and native tags in the processor
- Wiring local and field devices to digital and/or analog I/O cards
- Communicating with various devices, such as engine modules, power monitors, and protective relays over different protocols, such as:
- Modbus
- Canbus
- CAT Data Link (CDL)
- Integration into SCADA/DCS systems, either in the native tag format of the processor, such as L5K, or via Modbus.
Our custom PLC solutions typically provide controls for gas or diesel engine-driven generators used for various applications, such as prime power, essential / emergency power, peak shaving against and / or exporting to utilities, and load sharing with renewable sources, such as solar and wind. However, we can also provide controls for other engine driven applications, such as pumps, as well as applications that don’t involve engines, such as monitoring ink levels at a printing press.
System management and monitoring can be provided locally via an HMI, or remotely over VPN with direct web application solutions.
PLC Integration
Depending on the customer requirements; we can include standard, redundant and even SIL2 rated PLC integration. We can provide PLC controls only or provide and integrate low or medium voltage switchgear as a turn-key tested system.
UL Standards and Certification
As a UL certified panel-shop, our designs and wiring adheres to national electrical codes and UL requirements. We are licensed to UL-list per the following standards:
